Multiple tax rates imposed by various government agencies is one of the major challenges facing private schools in the country, the President, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, (NAPPS), FCT wing, Samira Jibir, has said.
Samira Jibir, who is the Executive Director of Glisten International Academy, Abuja, made the assertion in an interview with Daily Trust.
She said that the payment of multiple taxes to agencies has negatively affected the growth of most private schools in the territory.
She said multiple taxes have further worsened the myriad of financial challenges facing private schools and eventually the provision of quality education.
“We incurred bank loans to be able to operate well. We also have to pay the interest, provide for all services but other agencies are imposing on us multiple taxes,” she said.
She said schools were discussing with the government and other education related agencies on the way forward on the issues concerning education in the FCT, adding that lack of provision of adequate lands for schools purposes was another problem that slows down growth of schools.
