At the grand finale of the event held at the Korean Cultural Centre, 30 pupils were presented with prizes for their efforts in the competition, where they were required to capture some aspects of Korea’s tangible heritage.

Speaking at the event, the Korean ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Choi Jung-hyun said he was impressed by the quality of works the pupils showcased saying he is encouraged to do more for the competition next year.

He added that his embassy is committed to strengthening diplomatic ties with Nigeria and said cultural exchange is one aspect through which this can be realised.

Also speaking, Mrs Uche Onwugbufor, the cultural and creative arts coordinator of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board said a total of 329 pieces were entered for the competition as compared to 138 last year.

She also commended the Korean Cultural Centre for sponsoring the event and added that the board is appreciative of the centre’s “desire in hunting, nurturing, developing and promoting the artistic talents and potentials” of the pupils.

Director of the KCCN, Mr. Suh Joeng Sun said they have been encouraged by successes recorded in previous competitions and said the centre will continue in its effort to boost cultural ties with Nigeria, where they have the only cultural centre on the African continent.

Master Isak Ibrahim emerged the overall champion, carting away some assorted prizes including a Samsung flat screen TV. Twenty-nine other pupils got Samsung branded products as consolation prizes alongside award plaques presented by the the Korean ambassador to Nigeria.
