Biafra Zionists Movement ( BZM) led by one  Barrister Benjamin Onwuka today  launched a second attack on  Enugu State  but this time its main target was the Enugu State Broadcasting Service, ESBS where it wanted to make a pro-Biafra broadcast.
 
Daily Trust reported that members of the same group attacked the Government House, Enugu on March 8, this year and reportedly held the place hostage  for nearly four hours.

The BZM members, who were led to the television house by Onwuka, killed allegedly a police sergeant and wounded an Inspector who were among a four-man police patrol team that rushed to the scene to stop them.

However, a member of the group was shot dead by the police team who disorganized the plan of the hoodlums said to be over 20. The incident occurred around 6.30am.

It was gathered that heavily armed mobile policemen deployed  to the scene of incident  arrived after the  Biafra Zionists  had escaped, although an eye witness said two members were later arrested alongside passers-by  for questioning.

The witness added that  Onwuka and many of his men had escaped before the policemen arrived. Onwuka’s mission to the state television house was to make a live broadcast having declared himself leader of the new Biafran Republic last year, it  was learnt.

The group had claimed responsibility for the invasion of the Enugu Government House in March  this year during which some guards were injured. However, the police arrested and arraigned five members of the group who were remanded in Enugu prison.

Although the  Enugu Police later declared Onwuka and  his members wanted, none of them was arrested before  today’s incident at  the ESBS.

However, shortly after, police sources said that the BZF leader, Benjamin Onwuka and 12 members of his group have been arrested by a team of security operatives who gave them a hot chase while trying to escape into Independence Layout of the Coal City.

The State Police Spokesman, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, said he was collating details promising to formally brief the press.
