The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, Dr Marliyya Zayyan, has called on the Federal Government to institute a control mechanism on unutilized funds at the end of each financial year instead of removing the funds from the universities.
Dr Zayyan, who made the call recently in Abuja in a communiqué issued at the end of a retreat for members of the governing council, said there was need to improve finances in universities to fast track educational development.
She noted that the retreat is to consolidate the knowledge of members on the rules and regulations governing the university system and the importance of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the survival of the universities in the Nigerian education milieu.
She said: “University’s ability to generate IGR depends on its reputation and relevance, the relation with alumni, attraction of donors, connection of council members and ability to attract foreign students.”
