The new Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Pro. Umar Danbatta yesterday resumed at the commission with a promise to tackle the challenges of poor quality of service and other issues in the industry.
Prof Danbatta, who collected the handover notes from Engr Ubale Maska who acted as EVC after Engr Eugene Juwah was sacked on Tuesday, also said he would pay attention to affordability, accessibility and availability of service to Nigerian consumers within the available resources.
‘‘I also want to pledge improved quality of service, affordability, accessibility and availability for the Nigerian public we are serving.  We will be focused and be consistent with high quality of service and embark on exposing the Commission to international best practice, training and building capacity of staff”, he said.
He noted that there are challenges in the telecom industry but said the challenges are not insurmountable with the application of the resources available to the Commission.
‘‘I will bring to bear the resources available to the Commission and use it judiciously for better service delivery”, he promised.
He also promised to maintain the edge which it has over other regulatory agencies in the African continent.
But a source within the commission said Danbatta, who is to resume in acting capacity pending the confirmation by the Senate, Friday made some “vital changes in the management staff cadre of NCC.
