Prof Oladipo emerges Sports Science Association president

Professor Isiaka Oladele Oladipo, has emerged as the president of the Nigeria Association of Sports Science and Medicine following the recent election of new Executive Officers of the association.

Professor Oladipo edged Professor Ochuko Nabofa in the election held during the annual conference of the association at the Premier University in Ibadan.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dominic Leah Oluwafunmilola emerged unopposed as the vice-president, Dr Boluwaji G. Jaiyesimi as General Secretary, while Mr Taiwo Abdulkarim clinched the position of assistant General Secretary.

Other officers elected were Prof. M.H Darma as Treasurer, while Dr. Victor Ogunleye will serve as the Public Relations Officer of the professional body.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Olaidpo said he would run an all-inclusive leadership and ensure that the association occupies its rightful place among other professional bodies.

Delivering the keynote paper, the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka Professor Emmanuel Igoh Odokuma   decried the rate of mental illnesses in the country and advised Nigerians to engage in sporting activities to reduce stress, emotional trauma and disorders which may lead to mental illnesses.

Odokuma further said that sporting activities help to reduce stress and increase longevity.

“We looked at how medicine and science can shape sports. We addressed issues like humanity, science and sports and the benefits of sports in medicine, especially mental health issues,” he stated.
