Professional bodies can only contribute their expertise to national development if they are allowed to practise in an environment devoid of legislative encumbrances.
This assertion was made by the President of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Mr.  Foluso  Fasoto , during a meeting organized  by the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA)  in Abuja.
Fasoto called on the Federal Government to improve on power generation to encourage the real sector of the economy facilitate employment creation, as well as engaging the indigenous professionals in policy making and project executions.
“One of the objectives of the public procurement law in Nigeria is to ensure due process in the award of contracts among others. We have noticed that some of the requirements expected to be met when bidding for projects are somehow not applicable to professional services which work against smaller firms,”he said.
He cited registration with Bureau of Public Procurement, and compliance with Pension Reforms Act (2004) as some of the legislative encumbrances working against the smaller firms.
Fasoto said that the association has met with relevant government agencies on issues that are crucial to the survival of the economy, stressing that all over the world professionals pave way for economic growth of the nation and Nigeria cannot be an exception.
