Professionals call for wider mapping of the country

The Geoinformation Society of Nigeria (GEOSON) has called for improved suitability maps that will adequately show the locations of mineral resources across the country.

According to GEOSON, such suitability maps would reduce failure, increase yield and improve labour when deployed by operators in the oil and gas and mining sectors.

Speaking on the sidelines of the society’s recent 2017 Annual General Meeting and Conference in Abuja, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of GEOSON, Halilu Shaba, said the group had started working out ways to assist in diversifying Nigeria’s economy through the application of geospatial technologies.

He said adequate mapping and geospatial information were necessary in diversifying the Nigerian economy.”
