Drama series ‘Professor Johnbull’, in its fourth episode, ‘Foreign Petrol,’ satirised Nigeria’s endemic fuel shortage and distribution crisis, chronicling issues like the unresolved illicit street vending of the volatile commodity.
Professor Johnbull played by ace actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, through humour highlighted the national malaise, as he beamed on the dangers the problem poses to the nation if not addressed.
The drama series, sponsored by telecoms company Globacom, showcased how the greed of a few citizens could compound and prolong an otherwise easily resolvable challenge.
Viewers commented on various platforms on how a few people, consumed by their lust for money, prolong the sufferings of their compatriots by their inordinate desire to enrich themselves and how the ripple effect of the social malaise affects everybody, beginning with the shylock hotelier Etuk (Ime Bishop) and Professor Johnbull.
There was also the case of Flash (Stephen Odimgba) who also joined the bandwagon of those cashing in on the fuel shortage to become illicit fuel vendors.
