Sokoto state Governor Aminu Tambuwal has called on the African Bar Association to foster unity and integration in Africa, as well to promote good governance and sustenance of human rights of the citizens.

Tambuwal also noted that one of the best ways for the African continent to reap the benefit of globalisation was to collaborate with each other and bring its peoples closer.

The governor was speaking in Sokoto when members of the association paid him a courtesy call.

He pointed out: “Africans can gain a lot if they trade and interact closely among themselves. As a people, we should try to be more of our brothers’ keepers, and work more closely more than ever before.”

 Tambuwal noted that the AFBA   has lofty ideals,adding that  if properly harnessed, it would  provide a roadmap in the development of Africa.

 President of African Bar Association, Hannibal Uwaifo, stressed the need for African governments to do more to harness the natural resources available in the continent.

He commended the Sokoto state government for giving priority attention to pressing needs of the populace

Speaking on the association, he said it had done a lot in the promotion of rule of law and human rights.

 He assured that they would strive to ensure that Africa is free from hunger and disease, using the instrumentality of the law.

Uwaifo said they were in Sokoto for the association’s executive committee meeting which he said was prelude to its annual conference scheduled to hold next year in Port Harcourt.
