In an effort to encourage early detection, Kebbi State government has commenced the campaign for free screening of prostate cancer with 500 volunteers.
The State Commissioner for Health, Muhammad Jafar, made this known on Saturday at the flag-off of the exercise in Birni Kebbi where he said the first 200 people to be screened would be from Gwandu Emirate while the rest would be from the other three emirates in the state-Yauri, Zuru and Argungu.

Jafar said early diagnosis eases financial burden associated with the treatment of the disease, looking at the exorbitant cost of the drugs.
He added that the state government has in stock the requisite drugs for immediate commencement of treatment should any of the volunteers turn out positive.
