A protest erupted in Isanlu community on Sunday following the killing of a popular elderly woman, Mrs Elizabeth Olorunshola, at Ilafin-Isanlu community in Yagba East LGA of Kogi State by bandits.
Gunmen suspected to be bandits had killed the elderly woman in a fresh attack on the Ilafin-Isanlu community on Saturday night.
The armed men abducted Mrs. Olorunshola and another person along the Ilafin-Isanlu Road, according to community sources, who said they killed the woman after realising she was too weak to continue walking through the forest toward their hideout.
Her body was discovered in the bush on Sunday, sparking panic among residents, some of whom were said to be relocating to safer areas.

The President of Ilafin Development Association (IDA), Mr. Idowu Awe, described the incident as “sad and disheartening.”
“Today, we had a terrible and disturbing experience that led to the loss of one of our great daughters and mothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Olorunshola. This challenge has received the attention of our elders and leaders. Discussions are ongoing on how to secure our community,” Awe said in a statement.
The Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area, Hon. (Dr.) Joshua Dare Monday, also condemned the attack, describing it as heartbreaking and vowing that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
Similarly, the Member representing Yagba East-West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, condemned the abduction and killing, assuring that both the kidnappers and their informants would be apprehended and prosecuted.
The spokesperson of the Kogi State Police Command, CSP William Aya, did not respond to calls or text messages seeking comment on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
