Protest trails appointment of Misau’s new emir

Bauchi State Police Command said it has arrested nine suspects protesting the appointment of the new Emir of Misau Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman.

The state  Police Command spokesman DSP Haruna Mohammed in a statement said "On the 27/8/2015 at about 12:00hrs, (a) group of youth numbering over one thousand went on rampage in Misau Town protesting over the appointment of the new Emir and inciting disturbance of public peace".
Mohammed said the “combined security forces comprising the Police, Army and other sister services rushed to the scene, dispersed the hoodlums and restored normalcy in the affected areas".
He said so far nine suspects have been arrested for Criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance and mischief while patrols are being intensified within and outside the town.
The police spokesman reassured members of the public that it was “fully committed to public safety and security and will not fold its arm and watch disgruntled elements disrupt public peace in the State.”
Earlier in the day, the Secretary to Bauchi State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman, was appointed as the new Emir of Misau in Bauchi State.
His appointment was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Permanent Secretary in charge of Political Affairs, Government House, Bauchi, Malam Hashimu Yakubu.
“Following the death of the 10th Emir of Misau, Alhaji Muhammadu Manga III on Monday, 17th Aug. 2015, and pursuant to the powers conferred on him by section 3 (i) of the Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) Law, His Excellency, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman as the 11th Emir of Misau,” said the statement.
