Protester yesterday stormed the National Assembly urging the legislators to disapprove the $75m loan request by the Edo state government.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday wrote the National Assembly seeking the approval of a $75m loan being the second trench of the $ 225m World Bank granted the Edo state government under the 2012-2014 external borrowings.
The protesters carried placards at the main entrance of the National Assembly reading, “we don’t approve the loan,” “we don’t want loan,” “we want action.”
Our correspondent reported that the protesters staged the protest around 10.am <http://10.am/> when senators were going into the National Assembly for the day’s legislative duties.
Meanwhile, the request for the loan was yesterday referred to the senate standing committee on local and foreign debts.
The motion for the loan request was moved by the senate leader Mohammed Ali Ndume and  seconded by Philip Tanimu Aduda of FCT.
In ruling on the motion, the Senate president Bukola Saraki granted Ndume’s request and referred the request to the committee on debts.
“The request is hereby refer to the standing committee on local and foreign debts when constituted,” he ruled.
