Supporters of the Osun Continuity Movement yesterday shut down Osogbo, the state capital, demanding that Osun West Senatorial District must produce the next governor of the state.
The protesters made up of mainly students, artisans, politicians, women and youth groups converged at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park and marched through Oke-Fia, Alekuwodo and Ola-Iya Junction to the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress at Ogo-Oluwa where they presented their demand to the leadership of the party in the state.
The spokesman of the Osun Continuity Movement, Comrade Miftah Saheed, said Osun West Senatorial District had been marginalised and the APC must pick a candidate from the zone if the party really desired to win the election.
He noted that an Osun Central man governed the state for 11 and half years, Osun East man governed the state for about 8 years while Osun West man governed the state for less than two years.
“In the interest of fairness, equity and justice, Osun West Senatorial Zone should produce the next governor of Osun. The best space for any political party to pick a competent, visionary and progressive minded candidate from is the West Senatorial District,” he said.
