The provost of the College of Education Ilorin, Dr Isiaka Saka Opobiyi, has called on all state governments in the country to introduce education tax to develop facilities in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

Opobiyi, who made the call in Ilorin, stated that the education sector is dwindling due to inadequate funding and that except urgent steps are adopted to source for money to provide infrastructure and other academic projects as well pay salaries, the situation would further degenerate.

He said the TETFund introduced by the Federal Government has saved many tertiary institutions from collapse and called for a replica at the state levels, noting that resources are no longer available to fund the education sector.

Opobiyi attributed incessant strikes in tertiary institutions to anxiety, impatience and lack of funds hence the need for government to address the issues to sustain the education sector by looking inwards in funding it nationwide.
