National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, says the party is not under pressure to court Peter Obi or Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso despite their prominence as opposition figures.
Speaking during a chat on the possibility of the two political heavyweights joining the PRP, Baba-Ahmed said the party bears no resentment over their decision to stay away and respects their political choices.
“For Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, we don’t have any problem with them not coming to our party. We wish them luck wherever they go,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed noted that the limited political timeline ahead of major electoral activities may also be a factor for politicians considering movement across parties.
“Look, there’s very little time for those who understand the tight timeline for people who are moving from one party to another one. There’s very little time for people to move from one party to another,” he said.
While ruling out desperation for high-profile defections, the PRP chairman said the party is witnessing increasing interest from other Nigerians and remains optimistic about its expansion.
“We are getting a lot of other people who are coming into our party and we are very happy about that. We are a party of principles. We are a party that has lived its entire life on doing the right things,” he said.

He added that the PRP does not question the motives of politicians who choose other political platforms.

 

“When people don’t come to our party, we don’t ask their motives. We trust their judgement and we wish them the best of luck,” he added.

Baba-Ahmed also used the opportunity to dismiss reports suggesting internal divisions within the party.

“In spite of efforts to demarket PRP and to create the false story that there are schisms and factions in PRP, we are solid. We don’t have factions. We don’t have problems with either INEC or the law,” he said.
