Members of staff of the Police Service Commission (PSC), on Wednesday asked President Bola Tinubu to sack the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun with immediate effect over the rift between the commission and the police high command.

Speaking under the aegis of the Joint Union Congress of the commission, the members of staff said the call became imperative because the IGP had caused confusion for the president from his recent reaction to the latest recruitment of police constables.

Daily Trust had reported how Egbetokun stirred the hornet’s nest last Saturday when he rejected the list of successful candidates for police constables, alleging that it was marred by irregularities and corruption.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing at the headquarters of the PSC in Abuja, the chairman of the union, Adoyi Adoyi, argued that IGP’s action was capable of causing chaos, which he said was against his profession.

The union leader also alleged that some elements within the police attempted to smuggle over 1,000 names into the recruitment list. He described the allegations levelled by the IGP against the commission as false, unfounded and spurious.

The spokesman of the NPF, Olumuyiwa Adejobi could not be reached for official reaction at the time of filing this report last night.
