Dr. Femi Thomas made this known in Ado-Ekiti, during an advocacy visit to the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Modupe Adelabu.
According to him, plans have reached advanced stage to ensure that the over 24 million pupils nationwide receive effective healthcare adding that the roll out of the programme is scheduled for the second quarter of this year.
Thomas stated that 40% of the required fund for the programme has been set aside by the scheme, adding that the balance is expected to come from benefitting states and other stakeholders.
While commending the efforts of Ekiti government in implementing various health programmes aimed at improving the health status of its people, he maintained that 100 percent health coverage was achievable in the state, noting that the 2.8 million population could be conveniently factored into the Scheme’s programmes within the set timeline.
Thomas commended the state for releasıng theır counterpart funds for the  NHIS Millenium Development Goals (MDGs)/ Maternal and Child Health (MCH) project in the state.
“We have concluded arrangement to deploy gadgets similar to android phones to enable real time biometric registration of enrolees. In this arrangement, we shall have a situation where data of enrolees are sent immediately to our head office as they are being captured”.
As part of efforts to upscale its presence in the state, he requested the state government to oblige the Scheme a piece of land in the state capital for the development of a permanent office, observing that the Scheme was currently operating from a rented property.
On her part, the Deputy Governor, Professor Modupe Adelabu restated the state’s unalloyed commitment to healthcare delivery, stressing that the state government holds the view that citizens deserved an efficient medical attention to attain prosperity and overall development.
“Every citizen desires good health and the Ekiti State government would do all that must be done for the provision of affordable healthcare. This explains our eagerness to embrace universal coverage”.
She assured the visitor that the state government is favourably disposed to offering a piece of land to the scheme, for the construction of its state office in Ado-Ekiti.
The scheme is targeting 1.2 million school pupils in Ekiti State.
