The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Abuja has said the annual Quds Day serves as a powerful reminder of the world’s collective responsibility toward the plight of the Palestinian people.

Observed on the last Friday of Ramadan, Quds Day was first proclaimed by the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ruhollah Khomeini, and has since grown into a global expression of solidarity.

According to the Embassy, “Quds Day therefore represents the collective voice of nations and peoples who reject injustice and oppression.” It stressed that the Palestinian issue remains a symbol of resistance against occupation, discrimination, and the violation of fundamental human rights.

The statement noted that decades of occupation, repeated military assaults, and destruction of infrastructure have created a humanitarian tragedy that continues to shake the conscience of the world. Yet, it said, the resilience of the Palestinian people demonstrates that “the pursuit of freedom and justice cannot be extinguished by force.”

The Embassy further warned that Israeli policies have extended beyond Palestinian territories, contributing to instability across the wider region. It cited “attacks against Iran and repeated military assaults on Lebanon” as clear violations of international law and sovereignty.

Iran, the statement emphasized, does not seek escalation but will “firmly defend its security and its people against any form of aggression.” It argued that history has shown coercion and military pressure cannot bring lasting peace, but rather deepen instability.

The Embassy called on the international community to play a more active role in preventing violations of international law and protecting human rights. “Silence in the face of injustice not only prolongs the suffering of affected populations but also undermines the very foundations of the international order,” it said.

Quds Day, it added, remains a central concern for the Muslim world and for “many freedom-loving people across the globe.” Millions continue to raise their voices each year in support of the Palestinian cause, which it described as “a deeply human and moral cause that speaks to the conscience of the world.”
