Akinbode spoke in Abuja at the Special Waleemat Ceremony (Tankara) for the joint completion of the Glorious Qur’an and turbaning of ‘Brekete Embelembe’ Family Radio Presenter ‘Ordinary’ Ahmed Isa and other personalities held NASFAT Islamic Centre, Utako, Abuja.
He said the organisation’s quest to match words with actions led it into engaging Governors Raji Fashola, Ibikunle Amosu, Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi and Engr. Rauf Aregbesola of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun states respectively among other personalities on their knowledge and application of the Qu’ran.
“We did not rest on our oars. What we are all doing today has been done on Governor (Raji) Fashola of Lagos and insah Allahu, the governor can read Qur’an in Arabic and not just a transliteration. We also met Governor Ibikunle Amosu, he promised to work harder on his knowledge of the Holy Qur’an. So also were governors Abiola Ajimobi and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, they all celebrated their knowledge of the Qur’an.
“As leaders they need to be accountable and that is part of the teachings of the Qur’an and the noble religion of Islam. We are all enjoined to learn and practice the Qur’an for the sake of our society and the country at large and also for the benefit of the hereafter,” Akinbode said.
The NASFAT chief missioner also warned against discrimination on ethnic or whatever grounds, saying it is the first catalyst of discord that can lead to other problems.
Abuja branch chairman of the organisation Dr. Nasir Raji-Mustapha said the event was a fallout of joint recitation of the Qur’an spanning four years. He said the adult Islamiyya for Qur’an and Islamic studies has been repackaged and would soon commence.
