Bandits have abducted Abdulsalam Rabi’u Faskari, a renowned Qur’an recitation winner, along with his father, Malam Rabe Faskari and his brothers near Labin Bangori in Katsina State.

The attack occurred on Tuesday evening as the family was returning to Faskari after Abdulsalam was honoured by Governor Dikko Radda in Katsina for his victory in the 39th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

A government official in Faskari, speaking anonymously, said, “Malam Rabe and his five children, including Abdulsalam, were abducted at Bangori along Yankara road. We have not heard from them since.”

Abdulsalam, a medical student at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, secured first place in the male category for memorising 60 Hizbs of the Qur’an.

The police spokesman in Katina State, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, did not respond to a request for comment on the incident.
