Governor Shekarau was considered worthy for the award for his administration’s effort to identify well over 15,000 Tsangaya (Qur’anic) schools in all parts of the state and integrate them into the state main education policy.
Gwani Adam, the other recipient, was honoured for the establishment of a foundation, mainly to give scholarships to Alaramma (Qur’anic school teachers) and Almajirai (Qur’anic school students) to study within and outside the country.
Presenting the recipients for the awards, the National President of Qur’anic Reciters Association of Nigeria (QURAN), Gwani Lawi Gwani Danzarga, said Governor Shekarau’s administration introduced skills development training for 300 Quranic teachers on quarterly basis, such as tailoring, Islamic calligraphy and computer courses.
