The race to replace the embattled House of Representatives Majority Leader Alhassan Ado Doguwa has secretly commenced.

Daily Trust gathered that the move was being spearheaded by different groups following the nullification of Doguwa’s election and an order for a re-run by the Appeal Court sitting in Kaduna.

It was gathered that three lawmakers who contested for the position alongside Doguwa when the ninth assembly was inaugurated have since commenced underground moves to fill the vacuum created by the appeal court ruling.

A lawmaker who spoke to our reporter on telephone said APC cannot afford to leave the position of the majority leader vacant for a long time.

The lawmaker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there is no point leaving the office vacant, since Doguwa is facing an election to be conducted in 90 days. He said the position is not personal to Doguwa.

Sources in the House of Representatives told our correspondent that pressure was being mounted on Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila to fill the vacuum.

For their part, supporters of Doguwa are all out to delay the replacement.

They are also banking on the fact that the House may go on recess after the passage of the 2020 Budget.
