The governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, has commissioned the Katsina Football Academy.

The Academy, said to be the first of its kind in the state, is located at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina and will be funded by the state government.

In his address while unveiling the football academy, the governor stated that his administration will continue to engage with a London-based football company known as ‘You vs You’, to develop football talents at the grassroots.

He also used the opportunity to assure the teeming youths of his government’s readiness to support grassroots football development.

“The presence of ‘You vs You’ in Katsina will enable our teeming youths to realize their goal of playing professional football,” he said.

Radda also expressed confidence in the quality of young players who participated in the recently concluded football scouting programme in the state and urged them to keep the spirit of sportsmanship and discipline in order to achieve success.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Academy, Mal Ahmed Mohammed, commended the Katsina State government on its collaboration with the ‘You vs You’ to develop football in the state.

Mohammed said the Katsina State Football Academy will begin with 50 players aged 14 to 20, and the players will be divided into three categories.
