The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said it did not predict plane crashes but rather presented some cautions to Nigerians due to the expected heavy rainfall in some parts of the country.

NEMA in a statement by Manzo Ezekiel of its Press Unit said it only provided some caution as a result of the expected heavy rainfall in some parts of the country and never predicted plane crashes.

Ezekiel said the Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed, was wrongly attributed and misconstrued when he presented a document to the public on the Disaster Risk Implications of the 2021 Seasonal Climate Predictions and the Annual Flood Outlook.

“However, while the document presented to the public on its page 5 provided some caution as a result of expected heavy rainfall in some parts of the country, it never predicted a crash. It reads “squall lines, thunderstorm, wind shear, microburst, flash floods can affect runways thereby disrupting landing and take-off of aircraft, causing delay in flights, affecting sensors along runways and can lead to plane crashes in some cases.” This was never a prediction of plane crash,” the statement read in parts.
