Fifty-year-old Aisha Sagir and her 4-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, both of Unguwar Katsinawa, Bara Village, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, have reportedly been killed by rainstorm.
The heavy rainstorm, accompanied by strong winds, destroyed several houses, livestock and other valuables worth millions of naira in Bara.
A resident of Bara, Muhammad Nasiru, told Daily Trust that despite the heavy downpour, the major destruction was caused by flash floods from the northern parts of the neighbouring Jambba community, which washed away several houses at Unguwar Katsinawa.
“Surprisingly, the water flooded houses and killed two persons, a 50-year-old housewife and her granddaughter at Unguwar Katsinawa.”
Nasiru added that the incident has rendered many families homeless, as they’ve been forced to take refuge in neighbouring communities.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, saying that preliminary reports indicated that “At about 1000 hours today, 10th June 2026, Kirfi LGA experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The severe weather incident resulted in the tragic loss of Aisha Sagir, a 50-year-old, and her granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, a 4-year-old, both of Unguwar Katsinawa, Bara Village, Kirfi LGA.”
Habib explained, “In addition to the loss of lives, the rainstorm destroyed several houses, livestock, and other valuables worth millions of naira.
“Police operatives attached to Kirfi Division have visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage and to maintain order in the affected community.”
