A heavy rainstorm has inflicted havoc on some houses in communities of Gwagwalada area council in the FCT.
Residents said the rainstorm which lasted for just 30 minutes last Saturday night blew off some houses’ roofings, while some buildings collapsed at Yimi, Machada, Dupka.
A victim, Ayuba Eziekel, whose house was affected by the storm, said he just moved into his three bedroom apartment two months ago but the rainstorm has blown off the entire roof.
He said some of his property such as mattresses, television, chairs and valuable documents were affected by the heavy windstorm, even as he said he gave glory to God that all his family escaped unhurt.
“In fact, as I speak to you, I have evacuated my property to a neighbour’s house alongside my family. I am appealing to government to come to my aid,” he said.
Another victim, Yakubu Ismaila, a resident of Yimi, who also spoke with our reporter, said part of his house fence collapsed as a result of the heavy rainstorm.
He said the heavy rainstorm also uprooted some trees in the community, saying the residents were all thrown into panic.
“We are appealing to the council authority to come to my aid to provide some assistance to me and others effected by this rainstorm,” he said.
