Two Nigerian civil society organizations, Rising-Up for a United Nigeria (RUN) and Citizens Awareness Against Corruption and Social Vices Initiative (CAACASVI), have called on Nigerians to support Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited as it continues operations in the country’s oil and gas sector.

In a joint statement signed by Comrade Ogwuche O. Jonathan, Secretary General of RUN, and Hauwa Umar, Deputy Coordinator of CAACASVI, the groups said the establishment of Dangote Refinery has positioned Nigeria as an exporter of refined petroleum products while creating jobs and boosting government revenue.

They noted that since the refinery began full operations in 2024, it has contributed to reducing product scarcity and stabilizing prices in the local market.

The groups emphasized the importance of building additional refineries across the country to enhance competition and reduce dependence on a single operator. They urged stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to channel resources into developing refining capacity that would complement existing investments.

According to the groups, Nigerians stand to benefit more from a strong downstream sector that promotes transparency, efficiency, and fair competition.

They further encouraged Dangote Refinery’s management to remain focused on its operations and called for broad public support across different sectors of society.
