Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) in partnership with the Kwara state government on Tuesday distributed 25,000 bags of 10kg rice as palliatives to indigent families.

ADF said 1 million bags of the 10kg rice would be distributed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The move was part of the philanthropic gestures of the founder, Alhaji Aliyu Aliko Dangote to support families especially in Ramadan.

Speaking at the flag-off held at the Kwara State ministry Agriculture Ilorin, Team lead of ADF who doubles as the General Manager, Human Resources, Dangote Cement, Lagos, Alhaji Ahmed Gobir said the foundation had last year partnered with some NGOs to distribute the palliatives.

“But this year, it decided to partner with the respective state’s government for the distribution across the 16 local government areas of the state to less privileged ones”, he noted.

Gobir expressed hope that the rice palliatives will complement the government efforts in making lives better for the less privileged ones.

Governor AbdulRasaq who was represented at the event by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, hailed the ADF for what he described as an acts of compassion which will compliment his administration’s commitment to addressing poverty and uplifting vulnerable groups in the society from hardship.

“This rice which will be distributed to indigent families across Kwara state comes at a most crucial time when our Muslim and Christian brothers and sisters are observing the sacred month of Ramadan and Lent”, he said .
