Over 20,000 vulnerable residents across 22 local government areas in Oyo State has received food items and cash support from the Muslim Congress (TMC).

The event, held in Ibadan, was the organisation’s sixth annual outreach programme aimed at providing relief to indigent citizens.

Speaking during the programme, the state coordinator (Waali), Ustadh Idris Muhammad, urged members of the public to embrace charity, no matter how small.

“Every contribution, however modest, helps cushion the suffering of our less privileged brothers and sisters,” he said.

He called on the government to collaborate with organisations like TMC to reach the downtrodden in the society.

“Faith-based organisations already have established structures to reach vulnerable communities efficiently. So partnering with like TMC can multiply the impact of social interventions”, Muhammad added.

In his lecture, Imam Taofeek Abdullateef, Chief Imam of Al-Bara Central Mosque, Alegongo, Ibadan, said caring for the needy promotes peace and security in society.

“Acts of charity should not be restricted to Ramadan. Every wealthy individual and public official has a responsibility toward those in need,” he said.

Imam Abdullateef also reminded beneficiaries to remain thankful to Allah.

He said “gratitude attracts further blessings and urged recipients to appreciate whatever support they receive.

A beneficiary, Mr Idris Ismail Ijeta appealed to the government to support initiatives like this.

“Backing from public authorities would help scale these programmes and further ease the hardship faced by many communities,” he said.

On her part, Mrs Taiwo Gafar, another beneficiary, described the programme as a “lifeline.”

“This distribution has significantly reduced the daily struggles of indigent members of society,” she said.

Alhaji Abdulazeez Bamigbade, a financial expert from Olabisi Onabanjo University, praised TMC for its transparency in fund collection and redistribution.

He advised less privileged individuals to avoid criminal activities in pursuit of livelihood.

“Remain diligent in your work and trust in Allah; He is the ultimate provider,” he said.

The newly appointed Chairman of the Feed the Needy Initiative, Ustadh Saheed Aree, thanked donors whose contributions made the distribution possible.

He encouraged continued support to extend the initiative’s reach to more needy residents.
