Residents of Gbako LGA of Niger State have said that bottles of Bigi Cola soft drink and loaves of bread have been distributed to them by the state government.
In Batagi Ward, residents said they got five bottles of Bigi Cola per household, while those from Etsu-Audu Ward told City & Crime that they were given loaves of bread and sachets of milk by the distribution committee.
Usman Shehu from Batagi Ward said, “It is disheartening to witness allocation of crates of rubber coke to units where thousands of people reside. This distribution not only falls short of meeting the needs of our community, but also constitutes an insult to the dignity and humanity of the individuals affected.”
“It is unacceptable to trivialise the struggles and hardship faced by our community members by offering such inadequate provisions. The disparity between the number of people in need and the minimal support provided is a clear indication of the lack of empathy and consideration in the distribution process.”
In some villages in Etsu Audu Ward, residents told our correspondent that no fewer than 10 people shared a loaf of bread.
In Agaie LGA, beneficiaries told our correspondent that 10 households got four measures of maize.
City & Crime reports that the Niger State Government had at the beginning of Ramadan announced free feeding and palliative for citizens to the tune of billions of naira.
