A former Deputy High Commissioner, Nigeria High Commission Pakistan, Ambassador Ridhwan A. Mustapha, has urged Muslims and Nigerians to learn from the experiences of past generations to make themselves better citizens and gains Allah’s reward.
He gave the advice on Thursday in Abuja at the closing of this year’s Ramadan Tafsir (Qur’an exegesis) of the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society of Nigeria (AISN).
He said the Tafsir for this year was centred on Suratul Aaraf (Chapter 7 of the Glorious Qur’an), where Allah told of a good number of the stories of some prophets, and their encounters with their people.
“This is for us to learn from the examples of the people. This shows us that Allah is the Patience. This is for us to learn from the experiences of these people. Unfortunately, most of these people disbelieve the messages of the prophets sent to them by Allah."
"The most important is that Allah tried them and forgives them, but most still disobeyed despite series of trials and which spanned generations, before they are destroyed due to their defiance and arrogance. A good number of prophets like Moses, Jesus and Shuaib among others."
“Look at what corruption is doing to us in the country. The suffering we are suffering in this country is due to corruption. We should learn from the examples of this people and change our ways for the better to earn Allah Blessings and to save us from His punishments.
The most important thing is to internalize the lessons of the Ramadan, if we don’t do that; all our efforts will be meaningless. Internalizing the lessons would make our lives better,” he said.
The Director of the society, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, said Ramadan is an important means to attaining Allahs pleasure and also being saved from His wrath and punishment.
“Ramadan is a school for us. We should not stop listening to or reading the Qur’an. The lessons we learnt should be imbibed and practicalised it in our lives. This would show that we have actually observed the fasting as it should be observed. If someone wait till next year Ramadan, it means the person have failed,” Adeyemi said.
