As Muslims faithful commence the obligatory 30-day fasting period, political office seekers in Ogun State have called for prayers for peace, unity and progress of the country, particularly as the 2019 general elections draw near.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry and Ogun East senatorial district All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus aspirant, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, urged Muslim faithful to be steadfast and pray for Nigeria.

In his goodwill message commemorating the holy month, Ashiru admonished Muslims to always abide by the lessons of Ramadan, which include self-denial, discipline and perseverance, as contained in the tenets of Islam.

In the message signed by his media consultant, Tayo Mabeweje, Ashiru also admonished Muslims to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, discipline and good neighbourliness during and after the period of Ramadan.

“We must do away with all acts that contradict the expected behavior of a devout Muslim and promote friendliness, hope and love among the generality of Nigerians. 

Also, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Lagos West) has urged all faithful to pray for the peace and progress of Nigeria, as well as for a peaceful conduct of the 2019 electoral campaigns.
