The church also expressed disgust over the manner public office holders in Nigeria brazenly loot the public treasury.

The church expressed these reservations and more about Nigeria during a press briefing to announce its 10th Annual Elders’ Congress and Praise Nights 2011.

The 2011 Elders’ Congress and Praise Nights held recently at the RCCG Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan expressway was christened “Sunshine at Dawn (Psalm 92:14).”

Pastor Samuel Ayodele, the Chairman RCCG National Council of Elders, said because prayers answereth all things, the church would continue to pray for leaders as mandated by God adding that prayers would transform them in due course.

On the essence of the annual Elders’ Congress and Praise Nights which witnessed delegates from all over the world he said it was an opportunity to continue to appreciate God for His mercies, grace and love for the church.

Pastor Olufela Obatan said the role of the elders in the church is to guide the younger generations aright.

Reacting to issues of insecurity across the country, he said while the church would continue to pray for Nigeria. He urged President Goodluck Jonathan to take the issues of security, provision of infrastructure, education, health care and employment generation seriously.

Also Pastor Ayodeji Olulani warned Christians against avenging any injustice against them, saying vengeance is of the Lord.

He advocated a situation where Nigerians would begin to drag government to court and seek redress over failed government promises.

“The time has come when we should be asking our leaders how they kept their promises,” he said adding that leaders should be dragged to court when they lie.

Elder Joseph Ajayi expressed joy with the situation where Nigerians are now demanding for their rights from their elected representatives.

“The attitude of Nigerians has changed. Nigerians now discuss their country passionately,” he said, adding that it is unacceptable that elected office holders, in spite of their huge earnings, still pilfer the treasury.
