The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged media practitioners across Nigeria to uphold integrity, professionalism and truth in the discharge of their duties.

Adeboye gave the charge during a special thanksgiving and prayer service organised for journalists and other media professionals in Lagos on Sunday.

The programme, dedicated to media practitioners for the month of May, was designed to seek divine guidance, wisdom and protection for those working in the sector.

He said the initiative was inspired by a divine mandate to intercede for media professionals because of the critical role they play in informing society and contributing to national development.

Prayers were offered for practitioners in print, broadcast and digital platforms, focusing on wisdom, strength, protection, inspiration and peace as they navigate the demands of the profession.

Adeboye emphasised the importance of truth and integrity in journalism, noting that media practitioners occupy strategic positions in nation-building and therefore require sustained spiritual support.

Speaking at the event, the Special Assistant to the General Overseer and Pastor in Charge of Region One Headquarters, Pastor Oladele Balogun, highlighted the sacrifices journalists and media workers make in the course of their duties, often at the expense of their personal and family lives.

He called on employers, government and society to better appreciate media professionals through encouragement, improved welfare and fair remuneration.

Balogun lamented that despite their immense contributions to society, many media practitioners remain underappreciated and insufficiently supported.

According to him, institutions employing media professionals must take greater responsibility for their welfare by ensuring fair compensation and creating better working conditions.

He also urged media practitioners to remain steadfast despite the occupational risks associated with the profession, stressing the need for stronger societal support and improved welfare for professionals in the industry.
