But for the intervention of an old or elderly man, the story would have been different today. I got thinking after that incidence, even if I were Fulani, why attack me when I apparently do not have anything to do with the crises that happened some time ago?
Doesn’t it sound stupid to hear that a guy was attacked at Wurukum roundabout just because he is, or suspected to be, Fulani? Well it is equally senseless reading reports that 486 people were arrested in Abia State because they were suspected to be Boko Haram members. Is it every northerner that is a Boko Haram member? Those who arrested these people, did you find them with any weapon; or were they caught planting a bomb? It is unfortunate that we relate with people more by ascribing them with where they come from rather than with who they actually are. When I told somebody about my experience, he said maybe I should limit the way I walk around in Benue State.
Really? Is it my fault that I look the way I am? Why should I restrict my movement just because of the way I look? Is it therefore the fault of these people that they come from the north?
Don’t they have a right to live where they want and make a living for themselves just because they are from north? Imagine the government of one of these northern states doing same to Igbo or Yoruba or any other tribe, would it make sense? This madness should stop before it gets out of hand.
