Since I have been reading this newspaper, I have never met such a misleading article like the one titled above.

At no point did President Muhammadu Buhari say he has a preferred candidate to contest the APC ‘s presidential ticket. All those intending candidates who visited him got the same nod: Go and pick a form.

When he met with stakeholders, especially the state governors, the president said he wanted a consensus candidate so that their party could win. During the several meetings, especially in the past few days, this paper was reporting what transpired. When and to whom did PMB say he was after the candidacy of Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President?

What the president told the governors, among other things, was to allow (assist) him pick his successor just like the way they picked theirs. The last few days, Daily Trust wrote that Buhari asked the candidates on two occasions to reach a consensus among themselves and come up with a candidate before the party’s primary.

So when and where did PMB mention that Lawan is the preferred candidate?

By body language, should President Buhari prefer a candidate from the North, he could have picked those who really have clout, with all respect to Dr Ahmad Lawan.
