On the BBC as Nigeria’s National Radio, I strongly concur that the Nigerian government should award Dr. Mansur Liman a national honour for helping Nigeria out of its recent impasse. He deserves commendation and accolade. I appreciate the fact that you always take your readers off-the-hook by surprising us with articles that we have never anticipated you will ever write about. I love the suspense. Aliyu Mohammed, Kaduna: It was your Goodluck to have been awakened twice by Mansur over the death of General Abacha and Chief Abiola (may Allah forgive them). You can say loud and clear that BBC Hausa and other foreign radio stations have for long become our national radios because even nomadic Fulanis cuddle their sets and tune in to them every time there is a broadcast. We all know their timings as we know when to take prescribed medicine. But I want to tell Mansur that a patient dog eats the fattest bone. Sadly, only the Goodlucks have the Patiences.

Musa Azare, Bauchi: One thing you forgot to mention is that many of the millions of the listeners of the BBC Hausa Service are not originally Hausa, but various ethnic groups who understand Hausa. We trust the BBC: it is indeed Yar’adua that spoke to Mansur. The naysayers are just being typically Nigerian. Let our national radio and television also go and try to get the president to talk to them.

A. A. Ahmad: Another humorous piece full of altruism and lessons. Mansur’s hard work has made it possible for the use of man’s evidence against himself (hujjatun alaika). The interview, which was supposed to save the president’s neck, actually turned out to be a rope to hang his people: the exact opposite! May Allah continue to guide you.

I have the honour and privilege to email you today to inform you that I have been reading you since I was in JSS1 up to now that I have graduated from university. I will continue to pray for you so that Allah will enhance your abilities and reward your hard work.

Muhammad Aminu Usman: Aren’t you lucky that MKO did not make it to power? Perhaps you and your colleagues would have been shot down by that Studio Manager, before they shut down the Hausa Service. Nevertheless, are they not still shutting down, or shooting down, our Radio Nigeria Kaduna? Who shot down Gaskiya Ta Fi Kwabo and New Nigerian newspapers? Who removed the Ajami from our local currency? Did they not even head the Hausa Service of the VOA? Have they not now even indicted the victim as the culprit in Jos?

Tamim Yusuf: Tried calling you several times to get my views across by telephone but kept being diverted by your ever-busy phone. So I diverted myself to email. For my incessant effort (in vain) trying to speak to you, please recommend me to the National Assembly to award me Member of the Order of Naciya (incessant, unceasing, repetitive effort).

Y. A. Ibrahim: One of the most enjoyable articles of yours that I have ever read. I am in support of awarding an award to Mansur Liman by the National Assembly for his dedication and excellence in the discharge of his duty as a journalist and a nationalist. Even though all he did is part of his primary responsibility, he deserves commendation of that nature to boost his morale and to serve as wake-up call to young journalists like us.

Ibrahim Musa: Really enjoyed this piece. Really enjoyed that last recommendation. Yes, Mansur deserves National Honours for giving the National Assembly a way out of its predicament. And it is true, we must sadly admit, that Nigerians have more confidence in the foreign media than they do have in the local. Prof. Rebranding has a great task of getting citizens to have confidence in their own national media.

Auwal Muhammad: Yes, BBC is indeed Nigeria’s ‘national’ radio. I think it should be followed by “Al Jazeera: Nigeria’s ‘National’ Television” in view of the fact that the same National Assembly is using footage from Al Jazeera to investigate the cold-blooded massacre of cripples in Borno State. Shame on Nigeria’s information managers. And a bigger shame on the National Assembly for relying on foreign media to solve our sensitive internal national issues. Shame!

 Gwamna R. Y.: Yes, Mansur deserves an honour. But you also deserve one. You are hereby recommended to the National Assembly and the Presidency for the Member of the Order of the Column, MOC. And I am not MOCking anyone!
