From the outset, Umar Abdu Tsauri tried hard to convince voters of Katsina state that it shouldn’t matter to them who the President of Nigeria was. But in the concluding part, he contradicted himself by saying that if Katsinawa elected him (Tsauri) as their governor, he would not succeed without the support of Jonathan. This clearly shows that who the President of Nigeria is means a lot to the people of Katsina state. Tsauri knows pretty well that to succeed, the state governor needs the support of the president and, in spite of that he is saying that Katsinawa should forget about who to elect as the President of Nigeria.
Tsauri should know that people of Katsina are not ‘uninformed’ as he called some of them. They are very well informed of the principle of separation of power, constitutional powers conferred on each of the three tiers of government.
Umar Abdu Tsauri needs reminding that on December 6, 2011, eight months after 2011 general elections, he had an interview with Daily Trust in which he bragged that he singlehandedly spent eighty million naira on President Jonathan’s election. He should also remember that before the election, President Jonathan made a lot of promises. Now that two and a half years of his four-year tenure has gone, I want to ask Tsauri to tell us which of the promises made by President Jonathan to the people of Katsina state during 2011 electioneering campaigns have been fulfilled.
To declare support for yet-to-be announced Jonathan’s 2015 Presidential re-election bid is to toy with the intelligence of Katsinawa.
