Re: Buhari fires Oyo-Ita

It is a good omen, and a departure from the antecedents of the president who is accused of shielding his supporters from any probe by Anti-corruption bodies. In his first term, it took president Buhari many months under intense pressure from Anti-corruption pressure groups before he succumbed to sack Babachir David Lawan over what Nigerians called “Grasscutter scandal”. Another official who has been accused of corruption is his chief of Staff, Abba Kyari but up till this moment, there is no attempt to probe the allegation. Even the Vice president is not spared, because, he has been accused of breaching some procedures in some of the boards he chairs, at that time, the allegation was dismissed, and it never got any attention until now when the VP was stripped naked of those powers. So we don’t know whether he will ever be probed or not only time will tell. However, with regard to Oyo-Ita, it seems there is new vigour on the part of the president to extend the fight against corruption to those working under him. If truly this is the case, then Nigeria is now will be on the path to the Promised Land. The message is clear: nobody is above the law even if works closely with the president. The illusion that President Buhari has a reputation of covering his lieutenants is now over. It is going to be fire for fire. The “I belong to no one and belong to everybody” mantra will now be put into practice. The resultant effects are that the image of the president will be restored, anti-corruption bodies will be straightened, and the much-needed good governance will become a reality.

Our fervent hope is that all those officials who are accused of betraying their oath of offices will be brought to book to face the music.
