It wasn’t our intention to pass our view on situation and development at the Federal College of Education, (FCE), Zaria particularly on the issue of the second tenure of the Provost,  Dr. A. A Ladan.  But it became necessary as members of the institution and concerned members of the community who always wish for the well-being of this over half-a-century institution.

Your report in the Daily Trust Newspaper of Thursday February 18, 2021 on page 3 under the column IN-DEPTH FEATURE prompted us to exercise our  constitutional right, particularly Section 39 – Right to Freedom of Expression and the Press – of  the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

That a large member of  staff, students and citizens have shown their displeasure over the expiration of the first tenure of Dr. A. A. Ladan having counted his various number of achievements during his first tenure with all hope for his re-appointment for a second tenure having witnessed a hitch-free tenure in continuous peace and without any students riot plus provision of amenities for staff and students, construction and renovation of students’ conveniences, prompt water supply, road passages, lecture theatre halls, staff offices, laboratories, college fence, establishment of ICT Centre,  provision of mass transit buses and convening a (2006-2019) combined convocation ceremony on 7th March 2020, among other things.

It is a known fact that no society can be free from deviants and ingrates  whose  action can tarnish the image of an institution by turning deaf ears and blind eyes to insert their selfish interest and utter some baseless words and comments on staff welfare and allowances while the college authorities and the government have done their best in seeing that staff welfare, training, allowances and security are frequently  provided in the institution.

Lastly, it is a trite that the Federal Ministry of Education under the able leadership of its hon. minister, Malam Adamu Adamu, is fully aware of frequent receipt of fictitious petitions, baseless allegations and untamed words on the leadership of various institutions in the country especially when it comes to the appointment or re-appointment of captains of various institutions putting in mind that the authorities are vigilant and aware of true developmental positions of such institutions under their leadership, we call upon the federal government to speed up the re-appointment of Dr. A. A. Ladan to  complete his second tenure as the Provost FCE, Zaria in order to curtail all propaganda.
