No religion and tradition encourages violence or harming a fellow human being. Even the worst crime on earth have some modalities in both God’s and man’s constitution on what should be the punishment and how it should be carried out. It is so disheartening to read on the pages of newspapers, “a supposed housewife and mother confessed to having dealt with her husband under provocation”, over what?
Traditionally, as Nigerians and even religiously as Muslims, in some cases, men are allowed to have more than one wife. In most cases, women claim they deform or kill their husbands under the pretext of love, that they can’t stand seeing their men with some other woman who did not know the source of the husband’s wealth. The question that should be posed here is, is it in death or when their husbands are deformed that they would show their made-in-heaven love?
Though men can be very deceitful, as a woman myself, who loves her husband and have been with him through thin and thick, I know how it feels to be given divided attention or love by someone who pledged heaven and earth sometimes ago, that he was different from other men. There is no justification for causing a fellow human some pains in the name of being jealous. The story of Madam Beatrice Safiu, a mother of five, really touched my heart and got me thinking if really, some women are not beasts disguised in beauty. Does she think their children will ever forgive her for killing their beloved father?
I am not an advocate of men among whom we have wolves in sheep’s skin; I think love can make a great difference. Love can make them come back home and be blind to all the daughters of Jezebel out there who seduce them with their nudity. Yes, I believe love can tame the most barbaric of men, it can make the most intelligent man on earth behave like a fool (though to the world) when relating with his wife that misconception can set in and people would start gossiping that the man has been charmed.
Truly, it is worth charming our husbands, but with love. Let us charm them with true love. Let us charm them with care, attention, understanding, dedication, devotion, trust and support. In any case, if they don’t appreciate it, let us still take care of our part of marital agreement so that we can have a clear conscience and leave men with the Almighty God, who doesn’t condone and reward cheating.
Worthy of being stated here is that moving out of your matrimonial home is not an option that should be considered. You would only be licensing men if you do this and you may never have your love back. So, for respite, I recommend patience and prayers.
