I have always been a reader of Daily Trust and I believe that the utterly misleading notion that I called for Maj. General Mohammadu Buhari’s trial was not the handiwork of your reporter. Rather, the statement that emanated from the Congress for Progressive Change’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin stood the truth on its head by saying that I made such a call. He went further with misdirected profanities against my person.

In the interest of truth and history, I hereby request that you kindly help put things in correct perspective.

I have never met or had any dealings with Mr Fashakin and his rage against me is absolutely unjustifiable. People in my community know those who worked to mobilise support for Major General Mohammadu Buhari and I can assert that I respect the former Head of State and distinguished personality.

Without discountenancing the fact that I know Mr Yunana Shibkau who made the call, it is more than obvious that no right-thinking person should expect one to bear vicarious liability for the actions or inactions of other adults known to him. Under the constitution that we practice in this federation, no man deserves to be hanged for the choices made by his friends or other adults. Friends that I have cultivated over the years belong to different religious faiths and contrasting political persuasions that cannot necessarily be ascribed to me.

I believe that Daily Trust will help correct the very misleading and unjustifiable allegation being peddled by an exuberant politician.
