Thank you very much for this timely editorial it speaks the mind of millions of people and brings to bear the danger being faced by residents of Zaria, travellers passing through, students in the several institutions located in the city and their parents. Nobody is safe.
I wished that the Emir of Zaria would be more proactive in dealing with the situation. His strong lamentation during the visit of the commissioner and the listing of military formations in the state or even in Zaria will not help the situation much.
One of the most popular sayings is learning from history. We have learnt so far from the history of banditry in Nigeria that force cannot solve it alone and that a certain degree of civilian participation helps a bit.
In this regard, His Royal Highness should, without delay, mobilise the vigilante, hunters, volunteers and members of the Nigerian Legion to be patrolling the outskirts of the town alongside civil defence and the police.
A command and control centre, which should be the headquarters of the vigilante, be set up with a call centre that is fully manned, especially at night, with dedicated phone numbers that will be made known to all citizens, so that anybody under attack can call for help.
In the event of an attack the call centre can send help ( police, military, vigilante), it can send SMS to all people in Zaria at that time so that citizens are aware of the attack and those who can render help will do that.
The emir does not have the option of waiting on the state and federal governments because in all honesty, they all have their hands full.
If the emir fails to do something he will see his town and its people decimated right before his eyes the way it happened to other emirates.
May we see the end of this insecurity very soon.
