An opinion article in the Daily Trust of 25th April, 2018 in which one Tunde Asaju tried to cast aspersion on the job performance of the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, makes an interesting reading. The writer tried to impute a disconnect between the president and his media managers, implying that there is a communication breakdown. I don’t think there is any, as it is obvious that with Mr. Adesina and Garba Shehu in charge, Nigerians are witnessing a new and vibrant era in government communication process.
After he acknowledged that Mr. Adesina is a thorough-bred professional, Mr Asaju warned that Femi’s reputation may be at risk based on his zeal to defend the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Of course, this fear is unjustified, as Mr. Adesina has continued to live up to expectations of his employer, Mr. President and most Nigerians. He has not disappointed, and from all indications, he remains devoted to his professional calling and job description.
It may be necessary to remind the writer that Mr. Femi Adesina had been writing and supporting the principles President Muhammadu Buhari stands for, even before he became the president in 2015. In my opinion, Mr. Adesina has used his position as the presidential spokesman to inform and educate Nigerians on the activities of the President Buhari administration, while ensuring that wrong impressions or negative issues about the president are debunked and put in proper perspectives.
There is no doubt that his job entails some challenges but his professionalism and high sense of responsibility have helped him to trudge on. We must learn to give credit to whom it is due and I believe that Femi Adesina has given a good account of himself.
