The attention of the FRSC Unit Azare has been drawn to an article written by Mohammed Datti which appeared on page 43 of Daily Trust Newspaper of Friday, March 9, 2018 where the writer accused the Unit Command of causing accidents among other issues which lacks substance.
Ordinarily, the Command would have ignored the baseless allegations for lack of factual details, but to set the record straight, I decide to make a rejoinder in order to educate Mr. Datti and his co-travellers on the activities of FRSC and to also highlight the cordial relationship it has with the good people of Azare and Katagum Emirate respectively.
Laws and regulations are made for the good of the citizens and the laws in FRSC are no exception that is was why I normally use the media more especially FM Azare and Jama’are in order to educate the road users on safety compliance and I have been receiving commendations from listeners of the radio stations.
On the issue of new number plate (Registration Number), Mr. Datti should know that FRSC is not responsible for the sales and issuance, it is the responsibility of the State Board of Internal Revenue and there is no way to extort money from the sales as all number plates have their official fees payable to the Internal Revenue in the states across Nigeria.
Part of the responsibilities of the FRSC everywhere in Nigeria is to ensure compliance to road traffic regulations and anybody reading this piece would attest to the fact that no society is free from people who want to cut corners on some regulations thereby causing unnecessary panic. Most of the road users who follow illegal routes on the sight of law enforcement agents must definitely have one or two offences and by so doing they put their lives and other in danger. For example it is expected for car drivers to fasten their seat belts while driving, but some offenders would drive in high speed rather than being stopped by law enforcement agents – this is the true situation everywhere but we are still educating the raod users.
To buttress the fact that FRSC Azare Unit shares goodwill with the people of Azare town, there has been in existence of what is known as Special Marshals who are volunteers most of them are indigenes of Katagum who are assisting the command in order to achieve corps strategic goals.
In terms of rescue operations/activities, the people of Azare town will bear witness that the Unit Command is rendering 24 hour services and records of these are very much available for verification.
The Command would like to make it clear that it has many channels through which complaints are received. This can be either through the Command’s SERVICOM Desk Officer, Suggestions box and mobile telephone numbers which are made available for the purpose of receiving and treating complaints. In addition to this, the Unit Commander has an open door policy making it very easy for people with complaints to go to the office directly and lodge their complaints for prompt actions. But Mal. Mohammed Datti did not use any of these means but rather rushed to the press may be for cheap popularity.
Finally, we are still calling on all good citizens to be law abiding by observing traffic laws and regulations to enhance safety in the society. Drive with care to stay alive.
