Thanks God Almighty for exposing the so-called security roadblock personnels in the Northeast, especially in Borno and Yobe.
How I wish his excellency will take a trip to the fish markets. To transport dry fish from Baga to Maiduguri, you must get a hired military convoy or better buy it from the military officers in charge. Smoked fish which the Lake Chad Basin areas used to supply Nigeria with over 70% is now a scarce commodity even in Borno state capital not only because of Boko Haram, but currently due to the high extortion from the armed forces operating in the state.
Everything and everyone is now a war booty, hence the ‘victorious’ soldiers are now an occupation force in an enemy territory.
Security in a normal society is police work, but not in our dear country, Nigerian. Right from the start (1966), the military topgear reduced the Nigerian Police Force to nothing by calling them idle civilians.
The Nigeria police has always been poorly financed, paid, looked after and not motivated at all. The rank and file are made to be beggars and extortionists for the higher authorities. It became the choice if last resort to an applicant; usually for those who failed to secure admission to higher institutions and colleges.
When a well-organised body like the army starts something it is difficult to curb it. The military exercises absolute power in the war theatre and absolute power brings in absolute corruption, especially in our golden field of corruption (Nigeria).
We should not be surprised of extortion by our uniformed officers and men, afterall who turned corruption, and looting as a made in Nigeria product? The erstwhile Nigerian military government; the only country in the world where the richest billionaires are retired generals and their associates.
I hope PMB will believe Prof. Zullum of Borno State is telling the truth so that an expedited action will follow.
