Rather than seeing the problems of herders from the perspective of “evil from within” I would like to see it as our failure in erecting an all-inclusive foundation for development.

Contact with Europeans brought western education, governance, and a new way of life.

It is education that prepares one to be a full participant in modern society.

Europeans succeeded in transforming their societies by making education compulsory.

We still consider it as optional, with herders and gardawa  (Qur’anic pupils) choosing to opt out.

The consequences are what we are reaping.

Touts at motor parks and cultists were amongst those who opted out.

Looks like the case of dinosaurs that it was said faced extinction because they could not adapt.
