The former governor had expected the former president to prostrate before him to stimulate Sokoto State government support for the launching that was to take place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. It was Dikko who saved the situation.

The intrigues that characterized the impeachment saga against Wamakko as deputy governor at last made him popular such that he won governorship elections in the state. Several intrigues were used to remove him as deputy governor. At the end, Wamakko heeded to the advice of elders and resigned to save the state from crisis.

As governor of Sokoto State, Bafarawa did not see the relevance of Bicentenary celebration of Sokoto Caliphate until Alhaji Atiku Abubakar volunteered to shoulder the responsibility with his associates, but to be staged in Kaduna. Then he realized the implications of that and hijacked it to feather his political nest.  The former vice president may not remember this in the current political rigmarole, but Sokoto people remember and would ask him to be wry. Did Bafarawa not remove the former Galadiman Gari? Didn’t he try elevating his own district head appropriated from another family (now restored by Governor Wamakko) to run shoulder to shoulder with the Sultanate?

Sokoto indigenes and even the government have been disturbedabout the amount Bafarawa said he had left in the State coffers.  The fact is that assets in shares and goods are not liquid cash as the public was made to understand. This is a very simple accounting fact. The  EFCC and ICPC have consistently been requested to publish their findings. The expired rod purchase scandal still pervades the air of inquisitive Sokoto people.   Moreover, the pedigree of the man is to throw open every available acts to assail Wamakko and we are yet to see evidence of corruption he drums against Wamakko despite his threats of revelations at his disposal.  

As former chief executive of the state, we expect that he would respect Sokoto people and their leaders in his utterances. It was former president Shehu Shagari who stated that a politician should not neglect his political root because to do so is at one’s peril.  This can only be attained through respect for human dignity.
